Ananthasayanam

Ananthashayanam means ‘sleeping on the serpent Anantha.’ Lord Vishnu is in a reclining yoganidra position on Anantha, the Seshanaga, in Vaikunta in this painting. His head and feet are resting on the laps of his wives Sridevi and Bhumidevi, respectively. Vishnu’s weapons have been depicted uniquely. The Trimurtis, Saptarishis, Indran, Sanakadis, Garudan, Krishnan, and Arjunan are also characters featured with meticulous detail in this painting. The Ananthashayana painting in Kerala mural art is based on the story of Santhana Gopalam.
